Gay Comedian Goes on Rant About Body Shaming in The Gay Community

'Eat the f***ing doughnut, it’ll be the most interesting thing you’ve done all month douchebag'.

Joel Creasey – ‘Australia’s 7th most famous gay man’ – has had enough of body shaming in the gay community.
The nationally beloved comedian took to his Facebook page to tell people what he really thinks about gay men who go on intense diets before the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in March.
‘I’ve seen over the past few months on Instagram and social media gay men discussing their diets and gym regimes in the lead up to Mardi Gras and, particularly, the parade and party – as if they’re training for the Olympics or to compete in Miss Universe,’ Creasey wrote.
‘Body shaming in the gay community is getting out of control.’
Creasey who was a contestant on Australia’s ‘I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here’, said he had nothing against health eating and exercise.
But enough was enough.
‘I’ve been mulling this over for a while after I genuinely saw someone post a photo of a doughnut with a big red cross through it with the caption “4 months to Mardi Gras”… YES… THEY POSTED THAT IN NOVEMBER,’ Creasey wrote.
‘My first thought was to respond “Eat the fucking doughnut, it’ll be the most interesting thing you’ve done all month douchebag”.’

Sending the wrong message

But Creasey realized posts like these might have an negative impact on a lot of members of the LGBTI community.
‘I was thinking about impressionable, young gay men heading to Mardi Gras for the first time. Or older members of the community who have been fighting for our rights long before F45 was a “thing”,’ he wrote.
‘In fact, just anybody who might not conform to what is becoming this community standard of “hot”.
‘And doughnut man is not alone. There are so many others like him posting this unhealthy, body shaming crap.’

Creasey admitted body shaming in the gay community sends his ‘anxiety sky rocketing’.
‘I’m getting so bored of certain members of the gay community telling people that if you don’t have abs, bulging arms and “thighceps” then you are not welcome at the parade or any of the surrounding Mardi Gras partiesm’ he wrote.
‘I’m talking to those people who think it is a NECESSITY to be ripped, tanned and have 20k plus Instagram followers to be welcome.
‘Please let’s stop starving ourselves, please let’s stop shaming others and please let’s stop posting dumb shit like “T MINUS 3 WEEKS TO MARDI GRAS” next to a piece of steamed broccoli.’

‘That’s not what Mardi Gras is about’

Creasey reminded people that Mardi Gras was supposed to be a celebration of everyone in the LGBTI community.
He said it was also a reminder of how the far the community has come in the past four decades.
‘Oh and it’s also a celebration of Cher and anything ending with “Minogue”, let’s not forget that,’ he wrote.
Creasey has a personal interest in what’s happening at Mardi Gras.  He’s returning as one of the co-hosts of the TV broadcast of the world famous parade.

Here and Now Brings Multiracial Gay Drama to HBO

Dark maestro Alan Ball's new series is heavy on family discord, Holly Hunter, and gay sex.

Projects involving Holly Hunter or writer-producer Alan Ball (Six Feet Under, True Blood) always demand attention, but put them together and viewing is practically compulsory. Luckily, HBO’s Here and Now, created by Ball and starring the actress, won’t disappoint. The story of a multiracial family that’s slowly unraveling, the series casts Hunter and Tim Robbins as the parents of four grown children, three of whom were adopted from Colombia, Vietnam, and Senegal.
The Portland-based brood begins to fray when gay son Ramon (Daniel Zovatto) starts seeing things that aren’t really there. Mom is losing it; Dad is juggling depression and a mistress; and the hour-long pilot isn’t half over before foxy Ramon is rolling around naked with his equally comely love interest. The episode sets up the show as exceptionally promising. Hunter gives her character an immediate richness, Robbins gets a Six Feet–style philosophical monologue about aging, and Ramon introduces his boyfriend to his mother with the line “We put our dicks in each other.” Trust us: This is a crew you’ll want to hang with.

Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black Announce They Are to Become Parents

A massive congratulations are in order for fathers-to-be, Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black.

The couple wished their followers a happy Valentine’s Day by revealing a scan of their unborn baby, which they will welcome into the world in the coming months.

Dustin Lance Black covered Gay Times for our January 2018 issue earlier this year, and spoke about the time he first met the man who would become his future husband.

“I met him in the United States and I think he’s more well known there now than he was,” he revealed.

“And so I didn’t know, I wasn’t aware, that he was beloved in the way that he is here. I mean I found him really charming and lovely and, obviously, fell madly in love with him right from the beginning.

“But I had no idea that so many people in his home country were also in love with him. It wasn’t until I came to visit here many months later that I realized.”

He added: “We went out for a dinner and there were paparazzi trailing him and people coming up to him asking for pictures.

“At this point I’ve made films with Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn and James Franco. I’ve been around some very well known people in public and I had never seen that.

“Someone might come up and ask Leonardo DiCaprio for an autograph or a photo, but there was a different level of intimacy with how Tom was approached which I found so cute.

“There is this sense that he’s the nation’s son. And I said, ‘Boy, that’s incredibly intimate and really sweet. Don’t take that for granted.’ And I don’t think he does, so I don’t find it intimidating, I find it really sweet for the most part.”

Speaking further about their relationship, Dustin added: “We’ve been together now almost five years and I’m still discovering new things about him and I feel really lucky about that.

“There’s a constant renewal to our relationship and I’ve never experienced anything like it. It’s really exciting. I mean, we’re certainly not two perfect people.

“We have fights. Although when we fight, we just get very, very quiet. And then we know we’re in trouble, one or the other! We’re certainly not doing it for public approval.”

Tom and Dustin first got engaged back in October 2015, before tying the knot during a ceremony in front of family and friends last May.

“When Tom and I met four years ago I knew instantly I was in trouble,” Dustin says in their wedding video, which they shared with fans.

“I knew I had met my match, someone who would inspire me, someone I could admire, but also somebody who would naturally be my best friend.”

Tom adds: “Lance is one of the most complicated creatures on the planet, but that’s why I love him.

“He’s sensitive, courageous, committed, dedicated, hard-working and, above all, he makes me feel safe.

“When I’m with him I feel like I can take on the world.”

The Single Gay Man's Guide to Surviving Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is just a few days away and gay couples are presumably planning for their date with their significant others. Although Valentine's Day is a day of romance, it is the MOST stressful day of the year for singles -- particularly those who don't have someone special in their life. However, if you are single and still looking for a perfect date then here's some help.

The first step is to decide what are your "dating goals":

If you're just looking to meet new people and keep it casual, then meeting through friends or work, free online dating or Smartphone dating apps, meet up groups, singles events and activities or bars can work.

If you're looking for something more serious, try a higher end/paid online dating service, or a professional matchmaking service.

In 2018, gay dating has gone truly digital. Any stigma which may have surrounded searching for love online has been banished, and meeting for a mid-week online date is no longer something people feel they have to lie about.

How to prepare for a first date and avoid being nervous?

Take the time to look your best, as that'll make you feel more confident. Come prepared with some fun conversation topics to discuss on your date (travel stories, things you did over the holidays, movies, etc.).

Don't worry too much about "chemistry" -- focus more on making sure your date partner is having a good time. Go on your date with a "second date mindset" -- resolve to see the person a second or third time unless the first date is a complete disaster. A second date is a much better time to really get to know someone.

Be prepared with some fun and interesting conversation topics to discuss on your date. If you're feeling really nervous during your date, let your date know that it's because you haven't been on a date for a while -- they'll understand.

Above all, be positive! Don't let being single on Valentine's Day get you down!

Don't rush into anything and proceed at a pace that you're uncomfortable with -- there's no right or wrong time to become more intimate with someone. This particularly applies if you've meet someone online or on a hook-up app!

Once you have met someone you've really connected with, your best bet is to focus on them and put a pause on dating other people for a while.

How soon should a person call for the second date? Or how long should you wait to speak again?

The best time to ask for a second date is while you're on a first date that's going well! Forget what you've heard: there are no rules about when you should speak to someone again. If the date has gone well, the sooner the better! Texting or emailing someone the next day and thanking them for a fun night is a polite and nice way to let them know you've enjoyed meeting them.

What is the best environment for a first date?

If you met someone online, best to go for a daytime coffee date in a public place, or an early evening after work drink at a local spot can also work -- be smart and safe about meeting someone for the first time.

If you've met someone through work, friends or a matchmaking service then it's okay to meet for an evening drink & appetizers.

In general, you want to keep the first date casual, avoid booking a long dinner in case you find that you're not really connecting.

Going for dinner is a better option on a second or third date once you know you've got some "chemistry."

Valentine’s Day is really just another day and it is what you make of it – you can chose to downplay it or create your own reasons to celebrate it.

Have a plan for the day so you are not at home feeling sorry for yourself! If you have something to look forward to you won’t get feel like you are missing out. Why not get together with your other single friends or people you love like your family?

Treat yourself to a massage, a pedicure, buy yourself some flowers or a special piece of jewelry that you have always wanted. The bright side is at least you will be guaranteed to get the perfect gift for yourself!
